Good Tips On Self Tanning...

If you are looking for tips on self tanning, you've come to the right page.

Self tanning is one of the latest innovations in tanning products. While cosmetic skin darkeners have been available for many years, it has only been in recent years that these products have become "user friendly." The first self tanning products tended to be messy and caused stains in clothing, on furniture, and (not least of all) on your skin. Today's self-tanning products, on the other hand, tend to be much cleaner, easier to use, and longer lasting. You can do a few things to make sure your self-applied tan is even and lasts a long time.

5 Tips On Self Tanning:

The key to self tanning and having well applied self-tan is to first understand how self tanning products work. Self-tanning lotions and sprays are designed to attach themselves to the outer layer of your skin, but because your skin cells are constantly dying and being shed, your self-tan will only last about a week. Dry skin sheds faster than moist skin, so if you have dry skin or don't keep it moisturized, your tan will not last as long.

This is one of the most important tips on self tanning...

Whether you are using a self tanning product or a spray tanning booth, it is a good idea to exfoliate with a good quality exfoliant, loofah sponge or a pumice brush. Follow up this scrubbing with a good water based moisturizer, especially on the knees and elbows, which tend to be dryer than the rest of your skin. It is best to do this several hours before you apply the self-tan so that the moisturizer does not interfere with the self-tanner. Don't use lotions with oil in them or it may block the self tanning solution from penetrating your skin.

It is important to be prepared. Set aside at least a half hour to apply your self-tan, and be sure that you have a plan for how to reach all the spots where you wish to apply the product. This may mean getting a friend to help you reach your back.
If you are going in a spray booth, this usually takes less than 5 minutes from the time you go into the salon to the time you leave. Most booths are about a 30 second application time, so it's very quick and easy!

Cover body parts you do not wish to tan. One great way to keep solution out of your hair is to use a shower cap, leaving your ears out and the elastic approximately ½ inch above the hair line. Wash your hands after applying self tanning cream so you do not streak or stain your palms. If using a spray tan booth, most usually recommend applying a light coating of cream all over your hands and feet, especially the cuticle area which is especially dry. You will still get tan through the cream, but it will make your hands and feet even with the rest of your body!

You will want to wait a minimum of 4-6 hours before showering or getting these areas wet with water or perspiration. The color will darken over a 24 hour period, giving you a nice golden glow!

I hope you found these tips on self tanning helpful. Thank you for your time.
