Tanning Pregnant!
by: Anonymous

I have been a manager of a major Tanning corporation and get this question all the time, is it safe to tan while pregnant? I have told everyone the same thing ask a doctor first, everyone who asked their DR has came to me with the same response, yes tan while your pregnant, don't over do it and if you have high blood pressure through out pregnancy then stop tanning! I have been to seminars and they all agree its safe if the mother is healthy w/o problems, the uv rays DO NOT penetrate that deep into your skin. I have friends who have tanned through out entire pregnancy and everything was perfectly ok and I have been tanning every now and then and i am perfectly fine! Actually I have low blood pressure so it kind of helps me out, plus who wants to be white and pregnant in the summer it just makes you feel worse about your self!

RE Tanning Pregnant
by: Anonymous

Before making and decisions while pregnant dicuss it with your doctor. Most doctors say it is fine to tan after the first trimester, but everyone is different. If the pregnancy is going fine and nothing wrong it may be fine, but it is not worth chancing anything with your baby for a tan or any other reason. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST, wanting a tan does not make you a bad mother, but do it responsibly.

They don't know enough about it for anyone to say it is safe.

TANNING WHILE PREGNANT
by: SALON OWNER & MOM

You are right, you can do what you want with your body. However, you are now the keeper of another whole person, that is inside of you! While it is true that tanning rays cannot reach your unborn child, the big concern is raising your body temperature....you don't want to be a pressure cooker for that precious baby! I'm tanning salon owner AND a mom. I did refrain from using the tanning beds while pregnant, but I was definately outside in the sun using my pool, chugging lots of water, but then keeping in the shade when out of the pool. I don't think there's any real answer. Tanning beds are better than burning off your skin in the sun, that is for sure. A few minutes (5 or less in a REGULAR bed -not the super beds!) a couple of days a week might be ok in a controlled environment. It's a personal preference. Whether you are in a tanning bed or out in the hot sun....maybe ask yourself, whether it's about tanning or anything else while pregnant, is the risk worth it? It's only a suntan....it can wait a few months. I hope this helps.
