Spray Tan Solution and Organic Ingredients...
When it comes to spray tan solution tanning professionals agree that a good quality tanning solution is best because you don't want to turn your customers orange, or get streaks. But unfortunately lots of tanning salons use cheap airbrush tanning solution in their spray tanning booths and airbrush tanning machines. The newest trend in airbrush tanning solution is 'Organic'. Why organic spray tan solution? Because more and more information is being brought to light about the harmful chemicals used in the mass majority of tanning solution (for airbrush tanning and spray tanning). But not all organic spray tan solution is the same... Just because it says 'Organic' doesn't mean that it's better for you, or the most organic product available -- like in the grocery store -- Large companies look for loopholes just to be able to say their product is organic, use the minimum requirements, or outright even lie or mislead you. And then there are those companies that provide purely organic products (do your homework), and they are usually (in my experience) the most expensive products created by smaller companies...but I digress...back to spray tan solution... The best organic airbrush tanning solution does not use synthetic ingredients: - alcohols
- glycol ethers (ethoxydiglycol a particularly toxic glycol, an ether contained in the majority of solutions)
- formaldehyde producing preservatives such as parabens, hydantoins etc.
...just to name a few. According to Scentual Sun Tanning Systems, "Repeated inhalation exposure to these ingredients can lead to health and safety issues such as nausea, dizziness, lung irritation and worse. A proper over spray removal/ventilation system such as our Eliminator III is key to providing the service in an FDA and OSHA friendly environment especially when using products containing the aforementioned ingredients." There are very few self tanners, airbrush tan solutions, or spray booth tanning solutions that DO NOT contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) because it produces the best results. It is a colorless sugar refined from sugar beets or cane and although very safe is not approved to be taken internally. Proper airbrush tanning training and use of ventilation systems is highly recommended. And the airbrush spray tanning industry is very close to being regulated by the FDA due to the fact that there are harmful effects to inhaling or exposing people to these ingredients. Most spray tanning salons and airbrush tanning technicians are not aware or choose not to use proper ventilation. Ask your salon some questions regarding their spray tan solution and how well ventilated their systems are (they may also provide mouth, nose, and ear plugs if you are using a spray tan booth. If they do not, run as fast as you can). Related Link: Spray Tan Training
