But now, many of the manufacturers of self tanning lotions and spray's have mastered the coloring. A self tan is now the most popular salon treatment in the UK, and it's rapidly spreading through the US (the UK has been about 10 years ahead of the US in terms of the indoor and self tanning products industry).

As a result of the popularity of sunless tanning products, Self tanning lotions and tanning spray's are coming out in droves. The manufacturers tout their amazing tanning benefits. But many are a large waste of time. The following self tanners are our current best recommendations.

DermaQuest makes great products. They are easy to apply. Very reasonably priced, and you can get almost every little bit of the self tanner without being messy. Plus, their specialty facial sunless tanning product is a perfectly supplement. Most self tanning companies don't make it for the face because it requires different ingredients and therefore more production costs.

Fake Bake Self Tanning Spray is really good. You can use it as a touch up, and it's fast. We chose Fake Bake as a second place only because it can be a bit messier, but not by very much. You could say they tied for first with DermaQuest.

The other self tanning products listed are very good as well, and you might have a different opinion as to what is better for you. So you can't go wrong if you chose any of them. However, if you want something that dries fairly quickly, is easy to apply, and looks really good, I recommend starting with DermaQuest or Fake Bake.

Quality self tanning products generally will not come in a large sized bottle. The ingredients and manufacturing of the lotions are quite expensive.
