OK, first of all, if you are burning, you are getting too much exposure. Try taking it down even 5 mins less. IF it is ONLY your butt, lay on a towel. Or cover it with a towel when laying on your stomach. You need to get past that before going in on a daily basis!! Your skin will tell you if you get too much, pay attention. Every other session over the butt with a towel until you get past that. Once it gets tanned enough it will not do that anymore.
When I got my base tan I tanned everyday for small amounts of time, then worked my way up in minutes and once I got a good base tan I no longer needed daily tanning. Now I can go four days before tanning and still maintain a dark tan.
If at anytime I got red, I did not tan until it was gone. By tanning when your skin says it has had too much you are going to damage your skin and possibly for good. It can scare, I used to have problems with the natural sun, which is why I tan, and the fact I have arthritis, the scares never go away. Don't do that to yourself, it is not worth it, the pain either. I almost died. The machine at the hospital read deceased on the screen and I was awake looking at it.
If you take your time and be patient it will pay off by you having a healthy and natural looking tan, I have the best tan I have ever had in my life, and I did it gradually.

I had the exact same problem, my butt and face would just fry, but everything else would come out nice. I just simply asked for a towel to put under my butt and a wash cloth for my face and that really worked for me.

It is recommended that you build your base tan by going every other, or ever few days to the salon. Otherwise you are causing overexposure to your skin.
As for your area that is burning - it is important to be using a step 3 which is a moisturizer designed for tanners which will give your skin the nutrients it needs to maintain a tan, as well as it will help you tan better the next time you go. It is important to note that moisturized skin tans much easier than dry skin. Dry skin will reflect the rays away, cause uneven colour and is most likely to burn.

Try using a SPF on the area that burns.I use Amazing Face by Designer Skin on my face because my face burns more than the rest of my body. It has a bronzer with UVB inhibitor SPF 4. This will allow you to continue tanning the rest of your body and get your rear end more use to being tanned. Hope this helps!
