RE: Do you have to shower before tanning? by: Bird
Before starting your sessions you should exfoliate your skin a few times. Also use a good moistuizer, one esp for tanners will do best. Once your skin is well hydrated is when you should start your tanning sessions.
This is what works best for me and most, everfyone is different and you may need to tweak things for you:
DO NOT tan for at least 1 hour after showering
DO NOT showser for at least 2 hours after tanning. Your skin may tan up to 2 hours after your session.
If you are using a bronzer lotion to get immediate color then you should NO SHOWER for at least 5-7 hours after your session.
In the mornings use your moisturizer, after showering use it, after getting out of the tanning bed use it, even though you used a good tanning lotion before tanning, and before you go to bed use it again.
Use the tanning lotions in steps, you don't have to use all of the lotion before going to the next step lotion, I used the first and second step lotion as an after tanning session moisturizer, they work great, also, it is good to keep them on hand, when you get to the maximizers you may notice you cannot tan any darker, if you use the one and two step lotions for a few sessions then go back to the maximizers it may help you get past that and you will tan a little darker.

Do Not Shower by: Anonymous
You do not want to shower or perspire AT LEAST 4 hours after you tan. It is important to exfoliate and shower before your tan for maximum results. In doing so, you are tanning your newest layer of skin, which in turn is going to help prolong your tan.
As for lotion. If your lotion smells that bad, it may be expired, as they have a 12month expiry date on them. My recommendation would be to get something in a scent that is not too overpowering and something that has the technology to reduce the 'after-tan small'. All California Tan products have this technology. If your salon does not carry this brand, get a pure lotion - one without bronzer.

Shower after tan! by: Anonymous
I always shower about 3 to 4 hrs after. My girls at the salon told me that. And I would shower before, definitly if you didnt shower and wash off old lotion. The skin needs to absorb the lotion but please shower!

Do you have to shower before tanning? by: Anonymous
You should shower after tanning, but not right away. I always heard you should wait a while before bathing or showering. Although there is nothing wrong with before and after. I like to exfoliate before tanning so I usually shower or take a bath before tanning.
